Pet Supplies

Pet owners know that love is an essential component of a healthy relationship with your pet. But they also know that it takes more than just love to keep a pet healthy and happy. There are pet supplies involved too. A dedicated pet owner spends time with their pet and has the things specifically designed for that type of pet.

Dogs are man's best friend as the saying goes, and in all honesty they are among the easiest pets to care for. Essential supplies for dogs are actually quite minimal compared to many other pets. Really, your dog needs food, water, and shelter from you, along with plenty of attention and exercise.

While the essential pet supplies for dogs are not complex, dogs have the lion's share of the luxury pet market. They were the first pets dressed up, and that industry alone has grown into a multi-million dollar affair. If you want to see absurdity in action you need look no further than some of the things you can now buy for your dog.

Perhaps the craziest dog item I have come across is bottled dog water. It dispenses with labels such as fresh from the spring or bottled at the source. Its claim to fame is that it is flavored for dogs? I mean who wouldn't want to indulge their dog with liver flavored water? But the water is just one example of the kind of pet supply specialization that has occurred. You can take your dog to a delicatessen specifically for them. The food at these dog delis is oftentimes even more expensive than the fare served at a similar establishment for humans!

There's a lot of room to go in pampering your pet before you get to the extremes of bottled water and deli food thankfully. Whether it's a simple chew toy or a new ball to play fetch with; your dog will appreciate the little things you buy for it. More importantly though, you should find the time to spend with your pet and the things you buy for it.

Cats have a reputation for being aristocratic or antisocial. Any cat lover will tell you cats aren't antisocial, they just have standards. And these standards come into play when buying supplies for your cat too. Cats want the best, and cat owners want their cats to have it. Whether it's a luxurious multilevel scratching post and cathouse, or the food you feed your cat, owners delight in seeing their cats enjoy quality.

If you tend towards more exotic pets you will need more speciali zed pet supplies just to keep a healthy environment for your pets. Fish can be among the most demanding pets for environmental needs. Some fish require salt water, others fresh. But more importantly all fish require enough room to swim freely. Some have very specific temperature requirements as well; they can only survive in the span of a 3-5 degrees difference in water temperature. And all of that has to be taken care of before you even get to the topic of food, and making sure some of your fish don't consider other ones dinner! The upshot is that fish do not require nearly as much attention once the tank is set up and running.

Reptiles are another variety of pets that can be very demanding in the pet supply department. They are cold blooded which means that their body heat will adjust to match their surroundings. This has the side effect of causing them to need high temperature ranges to be active. When the temperature drops below 80 degrees, reptiles and even amphibians will slow down. If you cool them enough they enter a state remarkably like hibernation.
