Pet Grooming Supplies

Pet grooming supplies are the things necessary for the grooming and upkeep of your pet. What they are changes not only by species (dog, cat, rodent, reptile, or bird) but also by breed. It takes a different kind of brush to groom a Golden Retriever than it would take to groom a Dalmatian.

Dogs are the most common pet to purchase grooming supplies for. Any dog owner knows that their dog certainly isn’t grooming itself! Common items for dog grooming are brushes for the coat; shampoos designed for use on dogs, and dental care items such as tooth cleaning chew toys and even tooth brushes.

Cats on the other hand largely groom themselves; they preen and lick their fur in meticulous attention to detail. However if your cat isn’t toilet trained you probably have to buy litter box filler and help with the waste disposal for your feline. And as much as they may look at you with hatred, it is important to bathe your cat regularly too. It’s one of the best defenses against lice and flea infestations.

Birds are another animal that are self grooming. The most complicated supplies you will need to assist them in grooming themselves are a trash bag to put the discarded feathers and newspaper lining the bottom of their cage in.

Some rodents engage in peculiar grooming routines. For instance dust bathing is the preferred washing method of hamsters, gerbils, and chinchillas. There are also a few types of birds that wash in a dust bath. Pet stores sell specific dust for these pets.
