The first thing you’ll want to supply your bird is a cage. There are a few things to look for in a birdcage. The first thing to look at is what kind of metal it is made of. Bird cages with lead, zinc, or tin in them need to have a plastic coating on the bars to prevent the bird from chewing on them and getting metal poisoning from them. Stainless steel cages will not poison your birds. The second thing to look at is bar spacing. The smaller the birds, the more closely spaced you will want your bars. Akin to bar spacing but separate from it is cage size; you want to give your bird plenty of room to move around. Multi leveled cages are ideal for giving the bird enough space to live in.

Bird feed typically falls into pellet or seed type feed. If you are keeping a domesticated bird, it is important that you have the right bird supplies to give it a healthy diet. Contrary to popular belief most birds will not be healthy if fed only birdseed. They require a diet lower in fat and higher in other nutrients. A mix of pellet feed, fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts is the healthiest diet for a bird. For the specific mix best for your birds it is best to consult a veterinarian.
